Download Sources

Local Dream lets you change the model download source in the app's settings.

By default, the download source is Hugging Face.

Why Change It?

Some users cannot access Hugging Face reliably because of network restrictions, DNS issues, or slow international routing. In that case, you can switch to another mirror or provide your own custom base URL.

Available Options

In settings, you can change the download source to:

• Hugging Face — the default source
• hf-mirror — useful for users who cannot access Hugging Face directly
• A custom URL — for your own mirror or alternate hosting

When To Use a Custom Address

A custom address is useful if:

• you maintain your own internal mirror
• you want to proxy model downloads through another server
• Hugging Face and public mirrors are both inaccessible from your network

Make sure your custom address points to a compatible mirror or file host for the models you want to download.

Recommendation

If downloads work normally, keep the default Hugging Face source.

If built-in model downloads fail because Hugging Face is blocked or unreachable on your network, switch to hf-mirror first. If needed, you can then move to a fully custom address.

Background Downloads

Model downloads run in a foreground service, so you can switch to other apps during a large download without interrupting it. A notification shows the current progress.
